UPDATED COVID 19 PROTOCOLS AS OF 04/1/22
Vaccination of all eligible coaches and athletes age 12 and over is currently the most important mitigation strategy we have available for preventing Covid-19 outbreaks in our program and the surrounding communities that support us.
In conjunction with the Westport school district, we will now make mask-wearing optional for all participants who are playing sports for the PAL.
Effective April 1, 2022 anyone who is involved in a practice, playing in a game, or attending an event, now has the option to participate with or without a mask. The Westport Superintendent has announced the new protocol, which we will follow.
The Westport PAL will continue to monitor these new protocols. Our policy regarding positive cases or quarantining will remain in place as currently outlined below.
Players and coaches who test positive for COVID-19:
-
Should isolate at home for at least 5 days, or longer if symptoms develop and persist. (Updated by CDC)
-
Wear a mask for the subsequent 5 days at all times when around others,
-
Return to practice on or after day 6 if symptoms have resolved and they have been fever-free for at least 24 hours without fever-reducing medication and until receiving a negative result.
It will be the Head coach's responsibility to report any positive cases that has been forwarded to them from a parent of a positive player. Contact Tracing will not be mandatory at this time.
Though contact tracing is not being completed, it is important to remember to keep your children home and seek testing if they experience any of the following symptoms, even if mild and without regard to vaccination status:
-
Fever or chills
-
Cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
-
Fatigue, muscle/body aches
-
Headache, sore throat, congestion or runny nose
-
New loss of taste or smell
-
Nausea or vomiting, diarrhea
Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated players and coaches (Defined as having only one dose of the two dose vaccine or being within two weeks of the final dose) experiencing an exposure will:
-
Quarantine for 5 days from activities
-
Obtain a test on day 5 with either an at-home test or lab test
-
Return wearing a mask for up to 10 days
Vaccinated players and coaches experiencing exposure may
